KVK RI-BHOI CELEBRATED KISAN DIWAS

Kisan Diwas/ National Farmers’ Day Programme was celebrated by KVK-Ri Bhoi on 23rd December 2018 at KVK Ri-Bhoi ICAR, Umiam in the honor of the former Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh for implementation of various beneficial policies in the favour of farmers in India against the landlords and moneylenders. The Programme was celebrated as a part of Swacchata Pakhwara from 16-31st December, 2018. Dignitaries present in the programme were the Nodal officer KVKs ICAR, Umiam; Dr. A.K. Jha, Deputy Project Director ATMA Nongpoh; Shri M. Lyngdoh and Senior Scientist and Head KVK-Ri-Bhoi, Dr. Mokidul Islam. About 90 farmers from 12 villages in the district as well as KVK staff attended the programme.
Dr. A.K. Jha, the Chief Guest & Nodal Officer KVKs, ICAR Umiam, emphasized that farmers should be remembered everyday as because of their hard work to provide us good food. He congratulated the farmers for their hard work and also encourage them to work hand in hand with Agriculture and allied Department for a sustainable agriculture and doubling their income.
Dr. Mokidul Islam, Scientist and Head KVK-Ri-Bhoi welcome all and highlighted the importance of the particular day. He further explains that the Kisan Diwas is celebrated every year on the 23rd December so as to remember the farmers who are the backbone of our country India.
Shri M. Lyngdoh, the Deputy Project Director ATMA Nongpoh greet all the dignitaries and farmers for coming together to celebrate the Kisan Diwas. He further encourage the farmers to take the advantages of agriculture and allied department like KVK and ATMA for development highlighting the activities under ATMA like formation of SHG’s, Farm School etc which can benefit the farming community.
Besides Farmers-Scientist Interactions, the other activities viz., technologies for doubling farmers income, video showing, training on beekeeping, mushroom production and kitchen gardening were done. Inputs such as seeds like moong, bottle gourd, onion, spinach, radish, bhindi, ridge gourd and waste decomposer were also distributed to the farmer. The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks by Shri. Bankitkupar Mukhim; SMS (Fishery) KVK-Ri-Bhoi.
